With the increasing cases of fraud targeting Syrian refugees in Turkey, it has become essential to verify that your Temporary Protection ID (Kimlik) is valid and officially recognized. Fortunately, the Turkish government has provided an official and free tool to do just that.
Unfortunately, some offices and forgery gangs exploit refugees' needs, taking large sums of money under the pretext of quickly issuing Temporary Protection cards or in provinces like Istanbul that no longer allow registration. These cards may be forged or canceled, putting you at legal risk. Verifying your card's validity protects you from these dangers.
All it takes is following these steps on the official website of the General Directorate of Population and Citizenship Affairs:
Access the Inquiry Page: Open the Foreigner ID Number inquiry page on the official population directorate website.
Enter the Data Accurately: Fill in the required fields with the cardholder's information: First Name, Last Name, Father's Name, Mother's Name, Date of Birth, and Gender.
Click the Verification Button: Click the "Doğrula" (Verify) box at the bottom.
If the Card is Valid: The site will inform you of the Kimlik number (starting with 99) and its details, meaning your record is active, and you remain under temporary protection.
If the Card is Canceled or Forged: A message like "Kayıt Bulunamadı" (Record Not Found) will appear, meaning the card is invalid and may have been canceled or forged.
This service was launched by the Turkish Directorate of Migration Management specifically to address the increasing cases of Temporary Protection ID card cancellations for some Syrian refugees due to forgery or other legal reasons. Always use it to check your status.
